The "Miller Effect"

Girl with Bailey The "Miller Effect" refers to the effect my first canine colleague, Miller, had on the learning of young children. While working in a preschool setting as an early childhood/special education teacher, I observed his many interactions with the students. He assumed the lead role in dramatic play, organized "fetch and chase" games on the playground and was the topic of much language and vocabulary development after his comedic incidence.

From copious recordings of these events, I developed A Pawsitive Approach in 1991 as a curriculum to encourage early childhood development in the four domains of:
  • Cognition
  • Speech/Language
  • Social/Emotional
  • Perceptual/Motor
